Uncle Dick

Yesterday we went down to Salt Lake for my Uncle Dick's funeral. He's actually my Great-Uncle, but growing up, him and his wife were more like another set of grandparents. The funeral was very entertaining, with a lot of laughter. Uncle Dick will certainly be missed! Here is his obituary:

Richard Chipman Seastrand 1927 ~ 2010 Dick Seastrand passed away on June, 25, 2010.He was born in American Fork, Utah, one of six boys and four girls, on March 6, 1927 to Myrtle and Ernest Seastrand. He attended Harrington Elementary and American Fork High. He left high school to serve in the Navy, during World War II, as a Navy and Marine medical Corpsman and later, as a member of the Naval Reserve was recalled to serve during the Korean Conflict and awarded a Navy Commendation. He was proud of the years serving his country and kept alive many friendships with Navy buddies, school friends and proudly raised the colors and the Navy flag. Married Gay Moesser, September 25, 1954 of Granger, Utah. They lived in Granger, now West Valley, where they raised two sons Rick, wife Bonnie, Brett, wife Carol and was the proud grandparent of six delightful grandchildren; Sarah and Jesse, Jay, Maggie, Caitlin and his littlest tiger, Aaron. He encouraged them to work hard, to get an education and try to be the best in whatever they choose to do. He always said he was lucky to be married to the sweetest and prettiest girl on the block, Gay, his wife of 50 plus years, who was his greatest, most patient supporter and companion. He enjoyed time with his family, which was often the high light of his day. After early Navy service, then over a span of ten years, he worked at a number of jobs and additional Naval duties, attended the LDS Business College, where he met his wife, graduated from Brigham Young University, and participated in advanced studies at Stanford University. He began work in the Investment division at the First Security Bank and after 34 years retired as a Senior Vice President. He loved his staff members and was proud to have worked with most all of the founders of the First Security Corporation. His responsibilities placed him in touch with many Public treasurers, including City, County and State. He was a member of the three-man State Board of Bonding Commissioners with Governor Scott Matheson, treasurers Lynn Baker and later Ed Alter, for a period of six years and assisted the Utah State Retirement staff and other correspondent bankers, in securities and money management. Representing the Utah Bankers Association, he was involved with the Utah State Money Management Board and assisted in drafting the Money Management Act, as it presently exists. Was involved in the development of the National D.T.C. clearing system presently used in the securities industry and a member of the Utah Bankers and the Idaho Bankers Association, the National Municipal Securities Rule Making Board, Western Region Depositary Board, American Bankers Association, Dealer Bank Association and a member of the American Legion Post No. 71. He was skilled in public financing and his investment knowledge was frequently called on during his 34 years of service, which included teaching banking and investment concepts. He was listed in the 1985 edition of Who's Who in the West. During his life he was active in sports, including high school championship basketball and football. He was a member of his boot camp champion basketball team, the 12th Naval District baseball championship team and a member of the 1951 BYU baseball team. He played and coached baseball in the Utah Central, the Industrial League, American Legion and played basketball in church sponsored M Men basketball programs. His association with the players was an important part of his life. He bred and raised horses and felt nothing was prettier than a new healthy colt taking his first steps. He was a board member of the Utah Horse Racing Association. He was active in the LDS church as an elder and teacher. His ancestors, both fraternal and maternal, were of LDS pioneer stock and among the first settlers in American Fork. Edward Robinson, his great-great grandfather was the first train conductor in the world. William S. Robinson, Henry Chipman and Arza Adams were also his great grandfathers. He enjoyed his grandkids and spent quality time with them. He enjoyed creating stories and story props, his creations, which included, poopcycles, three legged chickens, a peg legged pig and dozens of other fun things. He enjoyed good humor, getting a smile from them around him and being around others that did. Other hobbies he enjoyed, were hunting, camping, bowling and golfing with his sons, family and friends. He never missed a deer hunt, until his military service and health restricted it. After retirement he wrote numerous articles of his life and other families adventures, all contained within a Seastrand Families of Selected Story's. Noah - 10 Months

Noah has made a lot of progress this past month! He's gone from getting up 2-3 times during the night to sleeping 12 hours at night! It is so wonderful! Although after such a long time, I still find myself waking up several times during the middle of the night, wondering why he's not awake! He's also started moving a lot! I am constantly finding him on his tummy after nap time or in the mornings. And during the day, he is always so wiggly, trying to reach things, etc. He's still quite content to just sit there though and crawling doesn't seem like it'll be happening any time soon. But, you never know! He's such a sweet little guy!

Chad's Surgery

In November 2008, I blogged about a little lump on Chad's finger. You can read about it here. Well, a year and a half later, he was finally able to have it removed. It had grown to epic proportions and basically just grossed out the whole family whenever we looked at it. So, yesterday, he went in to have it removed. I am so bummed that I didn't bring the camera with me. The surgery went well and Chad was back in recovery after only 35 minutes. It was kind of weird how they did the anesthesia. They placed a tourniquet on his upper arm, then were able to use some sort of anesthetic that just numbed his arm. However, because the tourniquet is a bit painful, they gave him a sedative. He was hoping to stay awake during the surgery, so he could watch, but the sedative just made him too sleepy. When they brought him back to the room, he was so hilarious. His speech was slurred and he kept making the funniest comments. Then, he'd lift up his hand and just stare at it forever, then he'd comment on how it didn't look any smaller. He also kept saying how disappointed he was that he didn't get to watch. My favorite was when someone commented that there was a fly in the remember, and Chad shouts out, "A fly, we should catch it! I need to identify it." I wish so much I'd had a recorder. He was so hilarious! The nurses and I were both just busting up. Of course, now he doesn't remember any of that. So, for now, the bandages stay on for a few days and stitches come out in 2 weeks. We were just glad that he was finally able to get this procedure done. They'll send the lump in for testing, but they believe it was just a benign cell tumor.

This is the picture we took back in November 2008.

This is the picture we took the night before the surgery.
The funniest thing was that everyone at the hospital that looked at it were like, Wow, that's huge. There reactions were hilarious.

Father's Day

We had a really fun Father's Day this year. I got up early and made a big breakfast. The kids just wanted Dad to open his presents right away. They just couldn't wait. Chad told me that the day before, he had told Lexi that the best present she could give him for Father's Day would be for her to clean her room and she replied, "Well, Dad, we already got you a book." Too funny! We went to church that morning and in the afternoon we headed up the canyon to roast hot dogs and have peach cobbler. This was our first mountainous experience this year and of course, it was a blast! The weather was perfect, the kids were impatient roasting their food and no one was able to catch one of the hundreds of dragonflies flying around. What a fun day!

Noah's Stats - 9 months

I took Noah in for his 9 month appointment. I was pretty surprised at his size. Here are his stats:
Weight: 18.9lbs. 16%
(So everyone can stop calling him chubby and fat, etc.)
Height: 28in. 35%
Head: 44 1/2 cm. 24%
His weight has usually been around the 30% so I was a little worried about it dropping like that, but the doctor didn't think it was anything to be concerned about yet. However, the doctor was a little worried about Noah not moving around yet. So, he is having us contact a program at the University here that will evaluate his progress and give him some help if they think he needs it. Noah still doesn't roll over consistently and I have never seen him roll from his back to his stomach, but I've found him 3 times after sleeping, on his stomach. I was pretty surprised, because he really detests being on his tummy. Anyway, I'm not too worried about him yet. I really think he could do some of these things, but he just lacks the desire or confidence. He'll figure it out.

For Sale!!!!

Our house is officially up for sale! Chad is still looking for a job, but we've decided to try and sell the condo now, so that we don't have to rush to sell it once he gets hired on somewhere. We figure if we are able to sell it before Chad has a job, we'll just rent a place somewhere close by until then. But, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that things will just work out just right in the timing. Anyway, you can view the listing here. If you know of anyone that wants a great starter home or rental property, send them our way!

Noah - 9 Months

I just can't get over how cute this little guy is! And I can't believe he's 9 months old already! He's been out longer than he was in. The last 9 months have been so wonderful with him. He's generally such a good-natured baby! He's got 5, almost 6 teeth. He loves to be held, he adores his sisters and idolizes his mom! In fact, he loves me so much that he has to get up 2-3 times every night just to have a little more time with me. =) He has really liked the few times that the weather has been nice enough to go outside. He sleeps in the closet. He enjoys eating Kix and still dislikes baby food. He's quite content to just sit there and is still not rolling over. We think he's going to go straight to walking and never crawl. And his smile just brightens up the day!

Preschool Graduation

Today was Myra's last day of preschool. I can't believe that the entire school year has already come and gone and now she'll be off to Kindergarten this fall. I admit that I'm struggling a little with it. The other day, we were talking about preschool being almost over and she said, but I'll go back to preschool after summer. And I said, no, you'll never go to preschool ever again. Kind of a sad thought, huh? Anyway, I should stop feeling melancholy about it. She's excited to go to Kindergarten and I'm sure she'll have a wonderful time going to school. Anyway, for Myra's last day of school, we got to go and have lunch with all the kids. The kids also sang the Joy School song to us one last time and we had a little graduation ceremony.

She was pretty excited to have a hat "just like dads!"

Here is the picture we took of the kids last September when we started preschool.

And here they are 9 months later.

Can you believe how much they've grown up?

Myra's Piano Recital

For the past few months Myra has been taking a group piano lesson from a friend of ours. Right now it's just her and a little boy named Noah, but Myra has really been enjoying it. The lessons are perfectly geared for a young child and I've been quite surprised at how well Myra has caught on. I think if she keeps it up she'll be a fantastic piano player. This past Sunday, she had her first piano recital. She played one song together with Noah and her teacher and then played one song by herself. I think she usually does a bit better at home when she practices, but something like this was good for her to do. On her solo, the piano book fell down and she had to stop to fix it. Then after, you can barely see it in the video, she did a little curtsy. What a cutie!

Somebody's 5!!!!

I can't believe that my baby girl is FIVE YEARS OLD!!!!! How did that happen? Her birthday was actually on May 10th and I'm just barely getting around to blogging about it. We started out her birthday weekend by celebrating with Chad's parents and siblings on Saturday. We went to the park, BBQ'd, played games and ate cupcakes. Myra was delighted with her new princess dress. Then on her actual birthday I made an Ocean scene cake for her and my parents came up for dinner and dessert. We had a lot of fun although Myra needs to work on her candle-blowing out skills.

You can see in the video Myra playing with her favorite present ever, a toy parrot. She's been asking for this present for months and it was really fun to see her open up something that she really wanted!
Myra has been such a joy these past 5 years. She is such a sweet, tender-hearted little girl. She always has a smile and hello for everyone. She is a wonderful help to her parents and such a sweet big sister. We all love her so much!
Here are her 5-year Stats:
Weight: 38.8lbs - 45%
Height: 44in. - 80%
Tall and skinny!
Her favorite foods are Ravioli and 7-layer Bean dip. She LOVES treats of any kind and is constantly asking for snacks or gum throughout the day. She loves playing dress up and will often put on a dress-up dress first thing in the morning and only take it off for meals. She adores picking flowers, so we are constantly furnished with dandelion bouquets. She loves playing with her new parrot and her toy stuffed dog her friend Elaina gave her for Christmas. Lexi is her best friend and she's always looking out for her and Noah too. She loves blankets and has to have ALL of her blankets on her at night, no matter how warm it is. Whenever I go to check on her at night, she's usually drenched in sweat under her 5+ blankets. She loves wearing her hair in pigtails. She's really enjoyed preschool this past year, especially when it's been at our house. Her favorite preschool job is the snack helper. She's super excited about kindergarten this fall. She loves to play with her friends and going to the park. She's taking piano lessons and wants to take singing and dancing lessons also. We'll see... Anyway, she's such a joy in our lives!
