Myra was so sad last week when we had to leave the American West Heritage Center after she broke her arm, so we decided to go back today. It was such beautiful weather! I'm sure going to miss these warm days when Winter gets here. We had a wonderful time today. The girls got to make Corn Husk dolls, which they've played with all evening. We rode the train again and steered clear of the Hay jump. Myra was very insistent that we not go on it today. :-) We also noticed signs that weren't there last week that said, "Play at your own risk." We had a really fun time going through the corn maze.
Myra and Lexi were pretty good at leading through the maze. We mostly had a really fun time running ahead and jumping out to scare each other. We also got to launch gourds out into a field,
Lexi and I went down the super slide, and Chad took the girls through the black-out maze. Overall, it was a great time.

Cast Day
On Thursday we went down to Primary Children's Hospital to have Myra's hard cast put on. She chose purple and was very brave while they did it. It is a relief to have that on now. With the soft brace that was on before, I was so worried about her hurting it worse, so it's nice to know that it's a bit more protected. She'll have this on for 3 weeks, then they'll remove it and put her in a soft wrap for another 4 weeks and she'll be able to start moving it then. Here are some pictures:
Yes, those are wires sticking out of her arm. They pushed them into the break, through the bone to hold it in place. When we go back in 3 weeks, they'll pull them out. Aaah! They said to make sure to bring some pain meds for her that day.
Lexi was so fascinated. She had to pull a stool over to stand on and watch. She kept saying that she wanted a pink cast. Hopefully not!
These are x-rays of the break right after it happened.
These are the wires they placed through her arm. Poor girl!

Zoo Day and Visiting Family
It was so quick getting Myra's cast on that we decided to go to the Zoo. Myra and Lexi had gotten to go when Noah was born, but Chad hadn't been in years and I was very excited to see all the new baby animals there. It was such a beautiful day. We didn't even have to wear jackets. We had lots of fun seeing the baby Elephant, the monkeys, penguins, the baby giraffe and much more! Chad and Lexi said their favorite was the monkeys, while Myra and I favored the Elephants.
This Mama Monkey was holding it's baby, when another Monkey ran up, grabbed it and took off with it. Then several more monkeys grabbed it before giving it back to the mom. It was kind of funny.
We enjoyed this Gorilla wandering around until he pooped in his hand and proceeded to eat it. Yuck! Although Chad seemed to think it was hilarious. :-)
Myra was a little tired at the end of the day.

Our Harvest
This summer we planted tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, watermelon, squash and red potatoes in our gardens. We have a couple of small box gardens we've made and none of them are in great places for plant growth. They are shaded most of the day, but that's all we've got right now. We got quite a few roma tomatoes, one small pepper and about 4 or 5 zucchini. Our other tomato plants have tons on them now, but when we had to rush down to Salt lake for Myra's arm, we didn't get them covered over and so now they are all ruined. :-( Oh well. The plant we were most excited about was our potatoes. We'd never done them before and when we dug them up, we were so excited to have around 20 potatoes out of 4 plants. It was the funniest thing we've planted. Myra and Lexi were especially excited about them. I love the 2nd picture of both of them just looking at their potatoes, like they aren't sure what to do with them. We are trying to decide what to do with the potatoes now. We want to use them for something really yummy. Any ideas?

Part 1, The Fun Part
We have had a couple of super busy weeks. Chad's mom came into town the beginning of the month to meet her new grandson. We did lots of fun things during the week. We went up to Bear lake over conference weekend. Unfortunately the weather was really bad and we stayed inside most of the time. The girls did get to play on the playground for a while and ran outside at night playing with their glow sticks. They also loved playing on the bunk beds while we watched conference. We drank lots of Hot Chocolate and had a fun time playing card games. We were sad to leave on Monday because the weather was so much nicer! Of course I failed to take any pictures except for a few scenery pictures Chad took. I think this one is particularly cool! During the rest of the week, the kids had tons of fun playing with Grammy here at the house, at McDonalds and we even went to the Soft Play center.
On Wednesday, Grammy went down to Salt Lake to pick-up Grandad and they came back up on Thursday. We went out to eat and spent the evening chatting. On Friday, we went over to the hotel and went swimming with Grammy and Grandad. The kids loved it! They are both very into swimming since their swim lessons over the summer. That afternoon Uncle Doug, Aunt Natalie and cousins James and Michael came down. We went out to eat again that night and just spent some time visiting again. On Saturday we headed back to the hotel for some more swimming, this time with James and Doug. After that we went to the Gardener's Market. All of the vendors had candy for the kids, so, of course, they really enjoyed that! After lunch we headed out to the American West Heritage Center. They had a bunch of fun activities for the fall. The kids got to take pictures on some various farming equipment.
Petting the goats. They also have a new little train you can ride on.

Part 2, The Not So Fun Part
To explain what a hay jump is, they just pile up a bunch of hale bales that you climb up onto, then they've taken apart a few bales so it's just straw, that you jump into. Chad went first, then took the girls up onto it. He helped Myra jump into it and upon landing she started crying/screaming. As soon as I got her out of the hay I knew something was wrong. I could see her left hand just kind of dangling out of the end of her coat. When we got her coat off, you could see that she had done something to the elbow area. I thought at first that it was dislocated. Chad carried her out to the car and we left Lexi behind with her Grandparents. The entire ride to the hospital was awful. Myra kept crying and was very upset that we had to leave. They got her right in at the ER and before they even did x-rays, the doctor said he thought it was broken and would probably need surgery in Salt Lake. They started an IV to get her some pain medication. They first tried to start it in the elbow (not the hurt one). We tried to explain to her that they were going to poke her arm and after that her hurt arm would feel better. Well, they went through the vein on the first attempt, but right after they poked her Myra said, "Wow, my arm feels better already." I felt SOOOOO bad they had to poke her again, but they finally got it in. I was kind of upset with the guy doing the iv. He kept getting upset that she was moving while he was trying to do the IV, well, what do you expect with a 4-year-old that is crying hysterically and is in a lot of pain. It was like he blamed her for missing the first vein. Ugh! So, after that she felt much more comfortable while they did the x-rays. They break was pretty bad, right by the elbow. I couldn't believe it, because it didn't seem like she had fallen that hard, she must have hit it just right. So, the doctor called down to Primary Children's hospital and we opted to drive her down there ourselves. We went back to the house, gathered up some of our stuff and headed down. I sat in the back with Myra and Noah and poor Myra was so uncomfortable the entire way down. It was at this point that we figured we would have to cancel Noah's baby blessing the next day. We were really bummed since we had family here from Florida and Idaho and we didn't figure they would be able to come back later for the blessing. Anyway, we went to Primary Children's Hospital where they got her right in and prepped for surgery. The accident happened at about 4:30 in the afternoon and she was being wheeled off to surgery at about 10:00pm that night. It was funny though when they were getting ready to take her back, the anesthesiologist asked if we wanted her to get a sedative before they took her back so she wouldn't be upset. Myra was starting to cry a little at that point, so he went ahead and gave it to her. Right after, Myra looks up at me and says, "Mom, I feel really good now!" So sweet! About 2 seconds later she was totally out of it. We tried to tell her good-bye, but she was in zombie mode. The surgery lasted about an hour and it went really well. They put 3 wires in her arm. The doctor says they actually stick out of the skin a little bit and they'll just pull them out without having to put her back under or anything. The doctor said once we went to recovery with her, she would probably be very out of it, but when we went to her, it was totally opposite. She was demanding her Popsicle, slush and sprite that they had promised her before the surgery. Once finishing her popsicle, she fell right asleep until they wheeled her into her room. At that point, she woke up and was very agitated. She was uncomfortable, in pain and pretty out of it. She was crying so much. We put a movie on for her and she calmed right down. I think it allowed her to get her mind off of things. After about 45 minutes, she asked to have it turned off so she could go to sleep. This was at about 1 in the morning. I just want to say that during most of the evening, Noah was so grumpy and did TONS of crying. Chad and I both stayed with her during the night. Myra slept until about 6, and we could tell right away that she felt TONS better. She immediately wanted up and kept wandering around the room. She ate a good breakfast and went out into the hall to play with some of the toys there. It was a relief to see her feeling better. They discharged us that morning and by 10:00, we were on our way back home. We are so grateful that Myra is feeling better and is on her way to recovery. We are thankful for our families that jumped up and helped us out by watching Lexi and offering us any assistance that we needed. We were also thankful that they were all able to come to the blessing, even after we canceled it and then decided to do it again. We are thankful to the doctors and nurses, especially at Primary Childrens, that were SOOOO wonderful to Myra and to us. They took such good care of Myra and made it a good experience, as far as hospital experiences go. It's hard to describe all of the emotions that we went through this weekend. It is terrifying to have your child get hurt and not be able to really do anything about it. To listen to them scream and cry in pain is the most horrible experience! And to think, this is the 2nd time I've gone through this in the past 5 weeks. (Last time with Noah.) I shouldn't complain though, because I know that many people, even some of my friends, have gone through so much worse with their kids. I'm just grateful to my Heavenly Father who has helped and comforted us through these experiences. And who has blessed us with these little spirits in our family.

Part 3, Noah's Baby Blessing
After all the craziness and drama these past couple of weeks, we were finally able to bless Baby Noah on Sunday. We had canceled it, then decided to do it since Myra was able to get out of the hospital so soon. We are glad that it worked out that way since Chad's parents were here from Florida, his sister and family were here from Idaho and my family was all planning on coming up from the Salt lake area. Noah looked so cute in his little outfit and luckily he slept throughout the entire blessing. He was pretty grumpy before, so it was a relief. Chad gave him a wonderful blessing and it was a great experience. After church we took some family pictures.

Noah was a bit more crabby then, actually most of the kids were a bit grumpy. I had planned to have a dinner after, but since I wasn't around to cook the food(I have half-made soup in my fridge and 20 bread bowls sitting on my counter), we decided to go to Golden Corral for dinner. I know, it was Sunday, but, what do you do? We had a wonderful time visiting with each other. Then it was time for everyone to leave. We said good-bye to all of our family and we wished them safe traveling back to their homes. That night, we all put on our pajamas, laid on the couch and watched a movie. It was so nice to relax. We are so grateful to have Noah in our family and have really enjoyed him the past few weeks. He's just starting to smile and we all LOVE it! Such a sweet little guy!
